Nineteen of the Russian's 21 championships have been won on hard courts

A comeback Medvedev secured his maiden championship for 882 days with a win over Corentin Moutet in the tournament title decider.

Medvedev, a ex- number one, has had a challenging year, achieving just one win at the major tournaments and experiencing a meltdown at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's varied form on the tennis tour - and issues with his serve in especial - resulted in him falling of the top ten and finally splitting with long-term trainer Gilles Cervara.

Now training with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently progressed in the past month - climaxing in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over challenger Moutet.

This represents the player's first title following the Rome competition and initial on a hard surface after that period of the previous year.

The win also signifies the Russian has achieved 21 titles at twenty-one different tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a competition with my two daughters together, so to win a trophy is particularly special," said world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my second daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I achieved when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had been defeated in his last six championship matches, including in the German tournament previously this season.

The player's counter-punching play style and frequent reactions on the tennis court had led commentators to doubt if his ability to play at the top level was concluded.

However the player has made changes in recent weeks, attempting to come to the net and play assertively, supported by an enhanced serving game.

The champion recovered from a deficit in the opening set against the difficult opponent, winning four of the concluding five exchanges to go ahead.

The pair traded break points in the middle set before Moutet, striving for his first tour victory, gained dominance to push for a final set.

Moutet defended 4 early-game chances in a competitive third set before the Russian broke to fifteen to close out the victory.

Fittingly, the winner secured the win with a point at the net area, with the Frenchman incapable to handle a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
